The Poem, “In Flanders Fields” was written just over a century ago. This legacy left to us by Major John McCrae has inspired a movement and the simple poppy has become a symbol that we should never forget the sacrifices that others have made so that we can live in peace and freedom.
It is important to realize that the poppy is a symbol of the brand and not the brand itself. The brand is the “Lest We Forget” movement. It is championed by our veterans and civilians alike. The brand stands for the ideology that those who died in conflict, in any part of the world, defending the rights of others, should not have died in vain. We shall remember them, honour them and realize that in an imperfect world, people must die to defend the ideals of peace and freedom.
That is what the poppy symbolizes to me.
Take the time to understand the difference between brand and a symbol and what the real values of a cause may be. By looking deeper, you will find the reasons why you want to support it or not. It is how the brand speaks to you that matters, not how the brand wants you to feel, for we all relate to symbols and brands in different ways.
Look at your own brand and the symbols that represent it. Do they truly speak to your audience, demonstrate your value and GetYOUNoticed?
This Remembrance Day, take the time to buy a poppy and wear it proudly as a symbol for those who sacrificed their lives and the freedom it represents!
