Every week I have a look at the metrics behind my social media to see traffic patterns and how I can better focus my message for maximum engagement. This week being the end of the month, I got a surprise I was not expecting.
I realized that a certain tweet had done well, but I could not believe the reach that I received due to one retweet.
Earlier this month, I saw an article by Mark Cuban that I thought was interesting and I took a moment to tweet it out and thank Mark Cuban for the information. A couple of days later, I received a tweet back from @mcuban saying that I was welcome. Well, my twitter wall blew up.
My impressions per month quadrupled and my profile visits and new followers went through the roof.
Why, because I took the time to say thank you and the acknowledgement that I received back got the attention of an audience I never would have connected with otherwise.
The moral of this is that Social Media is SOCIAL. “Likes”, “friending” and the like are wonderful, but comments and interaction are king. Take the time to tell people why you like what they posted, don’t just add a Like, it really does not mean much in the end. Engage people, we will all be better off for it!
