I have been part of several conversations with clients lately about brand. My first question to them is what is their passion and how do they currently communicate it?
Brand needs to be the essence of who you are as a company. What you believe in and what you are passionate about has to be at the forefront of what you do each and every day. How you communicate this passion, both to staff and to potential clients, is what separates the good from the great. How do you tell YOUR Story? How do you relate your passion about what you do? Have a look at this video of Lead Design of Nike Sportswear Gemo Wong. . .
Nike, like Apple, Microsoft, Coca Cola and others have developed cultures within their organizations that breed the passion that lets the story be told.
To communicate your passion, you first need to understand what your passion is. Your passion is not about making money! Money is the bi-product of understanding who you are, what the value you bring to the table is and being able to communicate why you love to get up every day and do what you do. Passion cannot be faked and cannot be bought, it has to come from creating a tribe of true believers.
Starbucks did not get to be who they are just because they make coffee.
So take time away from the office, take your key people on a retreat, lock them away and ask them what they are passionate about and what they believe the company really stands for. . . you may be surprised by the answers you get.
Find your passion and understand why you do things as a company. Not until you truly understand who you are at the core, can you market that value in a meaningful way.
What are we passionate about and how do we add value?
